An Ignored Confession

The Bible tells us that even the devil believes in one God and "trembles". It does not mean the devil will be saved on the basis of this belief. Demons spoke to Jesus from inside a man. They patronized Jesus and said, "I know who you are, the Holy One of God." Jesus only rebuked the demon and said, "Come out of him." Professing\confessing Christians should beware unless they learn to late that their confession was an empty headed knowledge that Jesus is real and exists. Nicodemus also made a confession, but Jesus said, "YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN." Jesus knows if we are truly confessing Him with our hearts or just our voices. Speak to God and reaffirm your faith if it is a true "saving faith".

The Fisherman In All of Us

There is just something about a fish biting your hook and the feel of the tug on the pole. Jesus said he would make us fishers of men. It is by the Holy Spirit's design that we cast our hook to a world that needs Jesus. He promised that he would make us "fishers of men". Let us all commit ourselves to catch a soul for Christ in 2012.

God is Calling, Are You Listening?

The story of the boy Samuel tremendous one about God calling and Samuel hearing/listening. Do you understand that God's calling is persistent even if our hearing is dull? We often jump up and run to the things we know best when we fail to recognize that it is God who is calling in life's situations. Samuel ran to Eli the priest who was able to advise him about how to listen to God. Sadly, Eli had stopped listening to God some years before. We need to remember to be still and listen for the calling voice of God.

Easter Sermon: What's the Hurry?

Colossians tells us to "Set your minds on things that are above if you have been raised with Christ." The angel told Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to "Go quickly..." and they "left the tomb quickly...". Do you feel the sense of urgency to go tell about the living Christ? Are you an evangelist? Are you winning souls? Do you feel the sense of urgency to live your Christian witness to the fullest? Do people know that if they speak with you very long you will say something about Jesus Christ? The message of Resurrection is a message that must be shared and shared quickly. Why? Because, time is short for everyone you speak with. The years pass quickly by and our time on earth is fleeting. Go quickly and proclaim; The Lord is Risen!

Sermon: There's No Place Like Home

What do Jesus' Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem, the second and third chapters of Genesis, and Wizard of Oz have in common? The first thirteen verses of the third chapter of Genesis describe the fall of humanity, a fall that broke all the relationships God had intended [read Chapter 2 of Genesis to see if you can see the evidence for humanity's four intended relationships: humans with God, humans with Creation (specifically, plants and animals), humans with other humans, and humans with themselves]. The remaining verses of Genesis 3 evidence the breakdown of all these relationships, a breakdown in which we still live today. A breakdown that finds us far from our Heavenly Home and causes us to search vainly for Home here. This message provides listeners with suggestions for finding Home and all the possibilities it offers.

Sermon: Forevermore Covers it All

Psalm 121 has such wonderful promises. On the surface it appears everything will always be fine in the believer's life. The sun won't strike us by day or the moon by night. We are promised that he will keep us from "all evil" and that we will be unmovable and unflappable in our faith. What about the hurt and pain in our lives? What about the sufferings and the disappointments we often face? Then I realized we are talking "bottom line". There are pluses and minuses as in a column of figures which we tally. What matters is the "forevermore" -- the last word in the passage! Let us rest in a God who never sleeps and never slumbers and promises to keep us – Forevermore.

Sermon: Quick to Judge? - Part Three

Part Three - The Court of Jesus as Judge
The apostle Paul warns us to not judge anything till Jesus comes and then He will reveal the intent of everyone's heart. Peter tells us that we are "ordered" or "commanded" to warn people that Jesus will be the judge in front of whom, everyone will appear. The good news is that God's Elect will not be judged like unbelievers. Everyone will give an account for the deeds done in the flesh, but the Christian is saved by the righteousness of Jesus Christ and not our own righteousness. Jesus warns us that "many are called, but few are chosen". Being one of God's Elect makes all the difference come judgment day.
